Lazarette — Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of the Lazarette app. "Lazarette", "we" and "our" mean Paul French, the developer. the Bosun is the name of the AI crewmate inside the app and Bosun AI is the name of the subscription; neither is a separate company.

By using Lazarette you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, delete the app.

What Lazarette is

A vessel-management and maintenance app for boat owners: your boat's locations and layout, equipment, spares, tools, safety gear, tasks, manuals, and hours, fuel and trip logs. It is local-first — the records live on your device and the app works offline.

The AI features (voice, photo and PDF extraction, and asking the Bosun questions about your boat) require an account and a subscription, and are described in the Privacy Policy.

What you pay

Prices are shown in the App Store or Play Store at the moment of purchase and are what govern; the figures below describe the structure.

• Free. One boat, with the full catalog, for four days from the moment you create the boat — not from install, because the app earns its keep standing in front of your lockers. After that the boat becomes read-only. Your data is never deleted: buy at any point, later that week or next season, and everything you entered is there and editable again.
• Lazarette — single boat. A one-time purchase (currently £9.99). One vessel, the full catalog, no expiry. Includes cloud backup once you sign in.
• Lazarette — multi-boat. A one-time purchase (currently £19.99) for unlimited vessels. If you already bought single-boat, you are offered an upgrade product (currently £10) instead, because the stores have no native upgrade pricing for one-time purchases.
• Bosun AI. An auto-renewing subscription (currently £4.99/month) covering all of your boats. It requires one of the one-time purchases first. It comes with a 7-day trial that converts to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before it ends — starting the trial means confirming a purchase with the store, and cancelling is done in your Apple or Google account settings, not in Lazarette.

Cancelling the subscription never takes your catalog away. You lose the AI features; the boat stays fully editable. Someone who has paid is never dropped to read-only.

Purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refunds follow each store's own rules and are requested from the store, not from us.

Your responsibilities

• Give the app accurate information about your boat. Its suggestions are only as good as the catalog behind them.
• You are responsible for the safety and seaworthiness of your boat. Lazarette is a record-keeping and reminders tool. It is not a survey, not a classification society, and not a substitute for professional advice. Do not rely on anything the app or the Bosun tells you for a safety-critical decision without checking it against the manufacturer's documentation or a qualified person.
• AI can be confidently wrong. Treat the Bosun's answers as a starting point, not an authority — particularly anything drawn from a scanned manual.
• Only upload documents you are entitled to use. You keep whatever rights you have in what you put into the app; you grant us only the permission needed to store it, back it up, and pass it to the services listed below so the features work.
• Do not use the AI features in breach of the Anthropic Acceptable Use Policy, and do not automate or flood them.

What we are not responsible for

• Decisions you make on the strength of anything the app tells you.
• Data loss on the free tier. The free tier has no cloud backup, so uninstalling the app, losing the device or wiping it loses the boat. Either sign in, which turns on cloud backup, or use the in-app export and keep the file somewhere safe.
• Outages at the services Lazarette depends on: Apple, Google, Supabase, Anthropic, Voyage AI and RevenueCat.
• Anything outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, the app is provided "as is" and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Fair use

The subscription is priced for one owner and their boats. We apply soft limits to AI usage to keep it that way, and we may throttle or suspend accounts that abuse the service — automated request flooding, resale of access, or use in breach of Anthropic's policy. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you before suspending anything.

Sharing a boat with crew

Where Lazarette lets you invite crew to a boat, the invitation is yours to issue and yours to end. When someone's membership ends, their access is cut and their device removes its cached copy of the boat's data, including any manuals. Anyone accepting an invitation agrees to that.

Your account

Signing in is optional and only needed for cloud backup and the AI features. You can delete your account at any time from the account screen in the app; see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that removes.

Deleting your account does not refund a purchase and does not cancel a subscription — cancel that with Apple or Google.

Changes

We may update these terms as the app changes. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, and continued use afterwards means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
