A cruising boat has dozens of stowage spaces — cockpit lockers, the lazarette, the voids under the bunks — and nobody remembers what’s in all of them. Open each locker and say what you see. Speech is handled on the device wherever the platform allows — and the contents land as inventory, stowed where you said they were.
Photograph the nameplates
A photo of the data plate becomes a component card — make, model, serial — so the boat knows exactly which heater, which charger, which pump it carries.

Short manuals answer questions as they are. Long ones are read and indexed page by page, so the right page surfaces when you ask.

The catalog is the context.
A diesel heater manual covers five models in one PDF — different fuel pumps, different glow plugs, different fault codes. Hand that PDF to a generic chat tool and you get five answers back, with homework. Lazarette already knows which model is bolted into your boat — captured when you catalogued it, photo and serial on file — so you get the answer for your heater. Not a list of possibilities.
A PDF in a chat tool is a document. A PDF in Lazarette is a document plus a boat.

The model is decided even while the numbers are settled: you’ll buy Lazarette once for the boat, and the AI — manual Q&A, voice cataloguing, photo extraction — will be a modest monthly subscription that covers everyone aboard. Crew will join free when sharing arrives, and access ends when they step off. No per-seat pricing, ever.
